CPPCC Session Holds Second Plenary Meeting
Thirteen members spoke at the second plenary meeting of the ongoing First Session of the Tenth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Saturday, airing views on issues ranging from economic growth, urbanization to ecological and environmental protection.

The meeting was presided over by Zhang Siqing, one of the executive chairpersons of the Presidium of the First Session of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
Xiao Zhuoji, a well-known economist, urged the government to help increase farmers' income by cutting excessive levies, lowering taxes, increasing funding, and giving more financial assistance.
Huang Mengfu, who spoke on behalf of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, the national chamber of commerce, called for "bolder" attitude towards the development of the private sector. Private businesses should be treated as equals to state-owned companies and foreign-funded ones, he said.
Chen Zhouqi put forward a six-point proposal on energy security and urged the government to pay greater attention to the issue so as to guarantee a long-term, adequate supply of energy for the country's modernization drive.
Liu Minfu, from the Revolutionary Committee of the Kuomintang, called for new thinking on western development, featured by faster urbanization, and better investment climate, infrastructure and environment.
Liu Feng suggested that the government map out a comprehensive plan for the development of the Yangtze River Delta Area.
