A Dutch solider of the international security troops and his Afghan interpreter were injured on Friday afternoon when an explosion occurred near their patrolling vehicle in a southern Kabul district, a spokesman said.
A Dutch patrolling team of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was on their patrolling mission in the Bagarami district, about 10 km from the city center, when the explosion happened at around 14:15 local tome, said ISAF spokesman Thomas Lobbering.
The two injured were evacuated immediately by a US Army helicopter to an ISAF camp in the east of the city for emergency treatment.
An investigation on the incident was underway by ISAF military police, the spokesman said.
It was the first time that an ISAF soldier was injured on a mission after the German-Dutch corps took lead of the United Nations-mandated international peacekeeping troops one month ago.
Around 5,000 ISAF soldier, currently from 28 countries, have been deployed to maintain security and order in Kabul and its surrounding areas since December 2001 after the former ruling Taliban were ousted by a US-led anti-terror campaign.
Four German soldiers died in a helicopter crash last December during a patrolling mission near the Kabul International Airport in an apparent technical failure.
