E. China Province Upgrading Traditional Industries

East China's Jiangxi Province expects to continue increasing investment by 15 percent to 16 billion yuan (1.93 billion US dollars) this year for the purpose of upgrading industries, the Provincial Planning Committee has announced.

East China's Jiangxi Province expects to continue increasing investment by 15 percent to 16 billion yuan (1.93 billion US dollars) this year for the purpose of upgrading industries, the Provincial Planning Committee has announced.

The technological upgrading would focus on the traditional industries involving automobiles, textiles, coal, paper and the Chinese herbal medicines, a source with the committee said.

The province completed 493 technology-upgrade projects in 2002,including the technologies applied in the Xinyu Iron and Steel Co. Ltd and Fenyi Power Plant.

The province would prioritize technological upgrade projects this year involving a mini-bus production line, engine manufacturing, fiber production, civil aircraft and Chinese herbal medicine, the source said.

The province had outlined the top ten high-tech upgrade projects and 12 of the province's technology upgrade projects had been listed among the state's key technology transformation projects, the source added.
