Chinese Leaders Join Panel Discussions of NPC Deputies

Chinese leaders Hu Jintao, Li Peng, Wu Bangguo and Wen Jiabao joined panel discussions of deputies to the ongoing First Session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, Thursday afternoon.

Hu Jintao Joins Panel Discussions of NPC Deputies
Chinese leaders Hu Jintao, Li Peng, Wu Bangguo and Wen Jiabao joined panel discussions of deputies to the ongoing First Session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, Thursday afternoon.

After hearing opinions of deputies from southwest China's Guizhou province, Hu, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said cadres at all levels, especially leading officials, should keep pace with the times and display a pioneering spirit, work for the benefits of the people in a down-to-earth manner, and foster a nice public image featuredby clean governance and dedication to the society.

Joining in discussions with deputies from eastern Zhejiang province, Li Peng, chairman of the 9th NPC Standing Committee, said talents are key to building a relatively affluent society andimplementing the strategy of invigorating the country through science and education. He called on the society to respect talentsand value knowledge.

Vice Premier Wu told deputies from Tianjin municipality in north China that emphasis should be placed on sustainable growth of state-owned enterprises in the future and cultivation of conglomerates with an internationally competitive edge.

In panel discussions with deputies from central Hubei province,Vice Premier Wen called for giving priority to developing agriculture and the rural economy, and increasing the farmers' income.
