About 150 Russian citizens will leave Baghdad on Wednesday, the Interfax news agency on Wednesday quoted a spokesman of the Russian embassy in Iraq as saying.
"The evacuation of our compatriots from Iraq continues in light of the growing tension around the country. This time, we are talking about the family members of the specialists of the privateRussian companies working in Iraq," the spokesman told Interfax over telephone.
According to him, all family members of diplomats, consular staff and employees at the chamber of commerce left Iraq last weekunder the Foreign Ministry's recommendations.
"All of the children of the Russian specialists (working in Iraq) have returned to the homeland. As for their wives, some of them are not coming back yet. It is their personal business and the embassy can't order private companies to send home their employees' family members," he added.
Furthermore, Russian specialists continue to work in different regions of Iraq, including in the southern city of Basra. The largest group of Russians is building an electric heating plant near Baghdad.
A top Russian foreign policy expert told the Itar-Tass news agency last Friday that Moscow would order evacuation of its citizens from Iraq if the situation around that country worsens.
He also said that a total of 750 workers and specialists from the Commonwealth of Independent States are in Iraq under Russian contracts.
