Tianjin port in north China began building a container logistics center here Tuesday at the cost of 6.8 billion yuan (about 819 million US dollars).
Yu Rumin, head of the Tianjin Harbor Office said that the center, to be completed by 2010, will handle modern container logistics services like distribution, information management, and exchange of cargo containers.
He also noted that Tianjin port will speed up container port construction including reconstructing all container ports in 2003,starting construction of five container berths in 2004, and building five new container berths in 2006 and 2007.
The modern Tianjin container logistics center will help Tianjinport achieve an annual capacity of 10 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of cargo containers by the year 2010.
