Some jet fighter of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) approached a US reconnaissance plane over the Sea of Japan at the weekend, the Pentagon said Monday.
Two DPRK MiG29 fighters and two other aircraft came within hundreds of feet (meters) of the US air force RC-135 plane and theclosest the fighters came was about 50 feet (about 18 meters), Pentagon spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Jeff Davis told reporters.
The latest incident, the first since August 1969 when a DPRK warplane shot down a US EC-121 surveillance plane, happened on Sunday morning, local time, and there was no hostile fire, Davis said.
