Israeli Troops Arrest One of Hamas' Founders in Gaza

Israeli forces arrested one of the founders of Hamas (the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement) onMonday, in a raid on a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian officials said.

Israeli forces arrested one of the founders of Hamas (the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement) onMonday, in a raid on a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian officials said.

Mohammed Taha and two of his sons were arrested when Israeli troops stormed the El Bureij refugee camp, in which eight Palestinians including a 33-year-old pregnant woman, were killed and dozens of others were wounded, witnesses and hospital sources said.

Taha, 67, one of the founders of Hamas which was founded in 1987, was one of the most senior Hamas leaders arrested by the Israelis since the Palestinian uprising began in September 2000.

More than 20 Israeli army tanks, armored personnel carriers andbulldozers, supported by Apache attack helicopters, raided at predawn Monday the central Gaza Strip refugee camp, Palestinian security sources and witnesses said.
