Corrupt Officials in China's Hunan Sentenced to Death
Two high-ranking officials from central China's Hunan Province have been sentenced to death with atwo-year suspension after being convicted of corruption and bribery.

According to the verdict pronounced by the Hunan Higher People's Court, Lin Guoti, former director of the Hunan Machine Building Industry Bureau, accepted bribes in the amount of 4.87 million yuan (588,875 US dollars) during the period from 1992 to 1998.
Jiang Yanping, former deputy manager of the Hunan Construction Works Co., was found guilty of taking 1.87 million yuan (226,119 US dollars) in bribes, embezzling 724,981 yuan (87,664 US dollars)and being in possession of 4.94 million yuan (597,340 US dollars) worth of illegal property of unidentified origin.
Both former officials were deprived of their political rights for life. In addition, Jiang was fined one million yuan (120,919 US dollars) and Lin 1.05 million yuan (126,965 US dollars).
