CPPCC Members from HK, Macao Arrive with Optimism, Pride
"China has a promising future," said Hoi Kin Hong, a member of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top advisory body, upon his arrival in Beijing.
"China has a promising future," said Hoi Kin Hong, a member of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top advisory body, upon his arrival in Beijing.
Hoi and some 200 other CPPCC members from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions flew in here Saturday for the annual CPPCC session which is scheduled to open on March 3. This is the first session for the new 10th National Committee, which has a five-year term.
According to Hoi, president of the Macao-based Powerlong Holdings Development Co., Ltd., the Chinese government has clearly mapped out the country's development strategies, which will help maintain the current fine momentum for China's economic growth.
Victor T. K. Li, managing director of the Hong Kong-based Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd., echoed Hoi's optimistic view.
"China has seized a new development opportunity with its entry into the World Trade Organization and therefore enjoys a fairly bright future," said Li, a member of the Hong Kong delegation to the CPPCC session.
The Cheung Kong group, out of its firm confidence in the Chinese economy, has made a lot of investment in quite a few sectors in the Chinese mainland, Li added.
Rosanna Wong, executive director of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, said that she felt very proud to be able to serve the motherland as a senior government advisor.
"This is a glory I cherish very much," said Wong, a new member in the CPPCC National Committee. "Previously I mainly serve local communities in Hong Kong, from now on I will contribute more to my country."
Hong Kong and Macao have 175 and 33 members of the 10th CPPCC National Committee respectively.
