China's capital will be lit up from March 2 to 19 for the upcoming 10th National People's Congress (NPC), according to an official from Beijing's municipal government.

The night lights, to shine daily from 18:30 to 23:00, will drape the buildings on the main streets, the scenic parks, and other high buildings.

The 18-day night light display will be the longest in Beijing, according to the official.

The lights usually shine during major holidays, such as the Spring Festival and the National Day.

The first session of the 10th NPC is scheduled to be held in Beijing from March 5 to 19, during which new Chinese leaders, including the state president and premier, will be elected.
