Some 6.19 million yuan (747,000 US dollars) in donation and relief goods worth 3.71 million yuan (447,000 US dollars) from China and overseas have been sent to relevant units in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Civil Affairs Ministry announced Thursday.

The powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted Jiashi and Bachu counties in the northwestern China region on 10:03 a.m. Monday (Beijing Time).

China Red Cross Society (CRCS) had received 1.91 million yuan (229,000 US dollars) in donations and more than 3.34 million yuan (400,700 US dollars) worth of relief goods by Thursday.

The relief goods include large quantities of tents, cotton-padded quilts and overcoats, coal, food and drinking water.

Despite the local governments' prompt and strenuous efforts to provide relief goods, the Jiashi-Bachu area is still suffering an acute shortage of relief goods.

The devastating quake killed more than 260 people and injured at least 2,000 others.
