The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has re-started its nuclear reactor at Yongbyon within the last 24 hours, agencies reports quoted a US official as saying on Wednesday.
The reactor has been frozen since 1994.
"North Korea (DPRK) started its nuclear reactor at Yongbyon," the official said on the condition of anonymity.
But he added that there were no signs that DPRK had reactivated its nuclear fuel processing facility which the United States will perceive as a more provocative development.
In a preliminary response to the US claims, a spokesman for South Korean Defense Department said in Seoul that "nothing has been confirmed."
