China Red Cross Collects 1.865mln Yuan Worth of Donations for Xinjiang

The China Red Cross Society (CRCS)has collected 1.865 million yuan (about 226,000 U.S. dollars) worth of donations for northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, hit by an earthquake Monday morning, CRCS sources said in Beijing Wednesday.

The China Red Cross Society (CRCS)has collected 1.865 million yuan (about 226,000 U.S. dollars) worth of donations for northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, hit by an earthquake Monday morning, CRCS sources said in Beijing Wednesday.

Following a dispatch of donations worth 315,000 yuan (about 38,000 U.S. dollars) by the CRCS on Feb. 24, the Red Cross Society ofthe Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) sent relief supplies worth 500,000 yuan (about 60,460 U.S. dollars) to Xinjiang. The Shanghai Red Cross Society also responded quickly, donating 150,000 yuan (about 18,138 U.S. dollars). The Red Cross in Shandong and Yunnan provinces each donated 50,000 yuan (about 6,046 U.S. dollars). The Red Cross organization of Taiwan Province sent a letter of condolence and donated 100,000 U.S dollars.

Disaster relief work is currently underway in Xinjiang.
