Cuban Leader Castro Kicks off Four-day China Visit

Fidel Castro, President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of Cuba, arrived in Beijing Wednesday afternoon for a four-day state visit to China.

Fidel Castro, President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of Cuba, arrived in Beijing Wednesday afternoon for a four-day state visit to China.

Later Wednesday, Chinese President Jiang Zemin will hold talks with Castro on bilateral ties and international and regional issues, following a grand welcome ceremony in the Great Hall of the People.

Thursday, Castro will meet with other Chinese leaders.

This is Castro's second visit to China. Castro will also visit Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, before leaving for home on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said Castro's China tour will further help enhance mutual trust between China and Cuba.

Castro came to China after attending the just concluded summit meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kuala Lumpur.
