Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has said that Iraq will not burn its oil fields in the event of aninvasion by the United States, according to an exclusive interviewby CBS television network with the Iraqi leader.

"Iraq does not burn its wealth and it does not destroy its dams," President Saddam said in the interview posted on the CBSNews.comwebsite on Tuesday.

The Iraqi leader was responding to a question by veteran CBS anchor Dan Rather on whether Iraqi will burn its oil fields, blow its dams or reservoirs of waters to resist a US invasion.

"We hope, however, that this question is not meant as an insinuation, so that the Iraqi dams and the Iraqi oil wells will be destroyed by those who will invade Iraq in their possible invasion of the country," Saddam added.

The interview is scheduled to be aired on CBS television on Wednesday.
