China will build three wheat planting zones in the next few years to promote wheat exports, sources with the Ministry of Agriculture said.
China has a sound yield of wheat but lacks high-quality wheat, according to the ministry.
By the year 2007, China's planting area of fine breeds wheat will be 40 percent of the gross wheat planting area, up 20 percentover 2001, according an Economic Daily report.
The three special wheat planting zones are being created in the reaches of Yellow, Huai, and Hai rivers, along the lower reaches of Yangtze River and the Greater Khingan Mountain Range, covering the provinces of Shandong, Hebei, Jiangsu, Anhui and Heilongjiang,the report said.
