China's New Container Ship Heading for Europe
One of China's largest and fastest container ships, the "New Dalian", Tuesday began sailing from thisnortheastern port city on Tuesday on her maiden voyage to Europe.
One of China's largest and fastest container ships, the "New Dalian", Tuesday began sailing from thisnortheastern port city on Tuesday on her maiden voyage to Europe.
The 279.9 meter by 40.3 meter Dalian-made ship, owned by the China Shipping Group, sails at a speed of 26 knots. With a total load of 66,000 tons, "New Dalian" can carry 5,668 TEU containers.
The China Shipping Group has ordered eight similar shipping vessels for its European route, six of which are expected to be completed within this year.
Earlier this month, the "New Pudong", a similar ship, left Shanghai for Europe.
Container transportation has been listed as the group's major business. By the year 2005, its shipping capacity is expected to reach anywhere from 270,000 to 280,000 containers annually.
