A magnitude-5.4 earthquake rumbled through Southern California early Saturday, jolting residents from their beds and swaying high-rise buildings downtown without causing any injuries or serious damage.
The moderate earthquake struck at 4:19 a.m. and was centered about three miles north of Big Bear City, a mountain resort community about 90 miles east of Los Angeles, according to the Southern California Seismic Network.
More than 100 aftershocks followed, including magnitude-4.5 and magnitude-4.2 temblors within two minutes of the initial quake.
The quake did not cause significant damage not even at the knickknack-laden Goldilocks Cottage Bed & Breakfast at Big Bear Lake.
The last big quake to hit the area was a magnitude-6.5 aftershock to the Landers quake in 1992. One person was killed and more than 400 injured in that quake, which caused an estimated $100 million in damage.
