Egyptian President Confirms March 1 as Arab Summit Date
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Sunday confirmed that his earlier call for an emergency Arab summit has brought about a comprehensive Arab agreement to hold a summit in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on March 1.

Mubarak made the remarks in a meeting with editors-in-chief of the country's press on his way back from Paris, the official MENA news agency reported.
Mubarak returned home on Sunday afternoon after a six-day tour that took him to Germany and France, where he held "important talks" with leaders of the two countries on the latest developmentsin Iraqi crisis.
Mubarak told the editors-in-chief that in light of the strong possibility of war and attacking Iraq, it was a must that Arab leaders should meet immediately to join international efforts to ward off a war.
While an international effort to prevent a possible war on Iraq was moving ahead, Arab countries as a whole should made a move through their "League", he urged.
According to al-Jazeera TV channel on Sunday, Iraq has requestedfor a postponement of an Arab summit slated for March 1 in Cairo, Egypt, till after March 14.
The report quoted a diplomat of the Iraqi delegation to the Cairo-based Arab League (AL) as saying that the request has been submitted to the AL secretariat and the Iraqi delegation asked the Arab League to convey the demand to the 21 other members of the pan-Arab organization.
On Thursday, AL announced in an official statement that the annual ordinary Arab summit will be held in Cairo on Mar. 1 with Bahrain chairing the meeting.
The date and the venue of the summit have been decided followingintensive consultations among the Arab countries, according to the statement from the office of AL Secretary-General Amr Moussa.
