A Taiwanese man delayed a flight between Macao and Taipei at the Macao International Airport Sunday night by claiming that he carried explosives, but was subdued by crew members of the plane.
Details of the incident were still under investigation, Cheong Kuoc Va, Secretary for Security of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government, told the press at the airport.
But Cheong said the passenger might try to disturb the flight in an agitated state of mind according to initial judgment.
On Flight NX612, the 29-year-old man surnamed Ye claimed that he had explosives with himself when the plane was taxiing along the runway on 9:41 p.m., arousing panic among other passengers.
He was immediately overpowered by crew members and handed over to Macao police.
The other 161 passengers have left for Taipei safely by anotherplane.
Eyewitnesses said that local police were checking the targeted plane at the airport.
Other flights operated normally at the airport, airport authorities said, adding that this was the first such incident since the airport was put into operation in 1995.
