FARC Claims Responsibility for Kidnapping Three Americans
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Colombia's largest rebel group, on Saturday claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of three surviving Americans, whose plane crashed in southern part of the country.

In a statement, the FARC demanded an immediate end to military operations by the Colombian army in the southern region of Florencia, "to guarantee the life and physical integrity of the three American officers."
A United States aircraft with five people aboard went down on Feb. 13 in the southern province of Caqueta, a drug-producing areacontrolled by the FARC. Colombian officials said the plane crashed because of mechanical failure.
The rebels shot dead a fourth American and a Colombian who werealso on the plane, which was flying from Bogota to Florencia, capital of Caqueta.
