Resolutely fighting and preventing corruption was a major political task facing the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government, said a senior CPC official Wu Guangzheng in Beijing Saturday.
Wu, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark when meeting a delegation from Thailand's National Counter-Corruption Commission headed by its president Ophars Arunin.
Wu, also secretary of the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, said the CPC had tightened efforts to fight various forms of corruption and severely punish corrupt officials under the law.
It was crucial to create effective mechanisms to essentially root out corruption in a bid to better protect the interests of the general public, he added.
Wu praised exchanges and cooperation between the supervisory departments of both countries, and hoped that they would continue to boost exchanges and learn from each other to better fight corruption.
Ophars Arunin said in recent years, the supervisory departments of the two countries had established good relations and conducted a series of positive exchanges, which was beneficial to both sides.
