China's consumer price index (CPI) for January rose 0.4 percent over the corresponding month last year, according to official figures.
The CPI in urban areas rose 0.4 percent year-on-year in January,while in rural areas, it rose 0.3 percent, according to a monthly report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)on Friday.
This was the first monthly rise of the CPI in the past 12 months.
Of the 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions surveyed, 22 saw a drop in the CPI while the other seven witnessed a rise.
Prices mainly affected by seasonal factors, such as those of vegetables, fruits and entertainment services, rose in January. But the prices of grain, apparel and durable consumer goods continued to drop.
Meanwhile, real estate prices rose on the back of higher fuel prices.
