South Korean President Kim Dae-jung declared the site of Daegu's subway fire as a special disaster zone Wednesday to help recovery efforts and provide victims with better state support.

South Korean President Kim Dae-jung declared the site of Daegu's subway fire as a special disaster zone Wednesday to help recovery efforts and provide victims with better state support.

Presidential spokeswoman Park Sun-sook said that Kim signed a recommendation order for the disaster zone designation, which was put together in a meeting of related ministers earlier in the day.
