Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon views as "positive" Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's decision to name a prime minister, Israel radio reported on Monday.

The radio quoted Sharon as saying if Arafat succeeded in alleviating the Palestinian-Israel tensions, it would offer an opportunity to implement Israel's political plan.

Sharon made the unusual remarks on the day when both Israeli andPalestinian officials headed for London for a second round of talkson reform in the Palestinians National Authority.

Sharon had previously labelled Arafat as Israel's "enemy" and insisted on replacement of the Palestinian leadership under Arafat.
