Turkish PM: UN Chief to Unveil New Plan on Cyprus
Turkish Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said in Brussels Monday that UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan would unveil a fresh peace plan next week in a last-ditch effort to reunite Cyprus.

Annan is in Brussels to attend an emergency European Union (EU)summit on Iraq. He will travel to Ankara, Athens and Nicosia next week in a bid to revive the stalled peace talks between Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders aimed at ending their decades-old divisionbefore a UN deadline expires at the end of the month.
"We are all trying to solve the problem, there is a good chancefor that. Secretary-General Annan is coming to Turkey next week. We know that he has another plan, something we hope will be to thesatisfaction of both sides," Gul told reporters.
The Turkish leader was speaking at a press conference after meeting Annan at the EU summit.
He said Annan had not disclosed what changes he had made to theUN plan but that these would be discussed during his trip to the Turkish capital.
UN negotiators have set a Feb. 28 deadline as the last possibledate for agreement if Cyprus is to be reunited before it signs a treaty on April 16 to join the EU.
