In a telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Jacques Chirac "expressed their satisfaction with the favorable reception from around the world totheir position, as reflected in the outcome of the UN Security Council meeting on Feb. 14," the Kremlin said in a press release.
The two presidents "confirmed the continuation of their two countries' position in favor of maximizing the possibility offeredby UN Security Council resolution 1441 to ensure a satisfactory settlement to the Iraq problem," said the release.
Russia, France and Germany signed a tripartite declaration lastweek, urging for further weapons inspections in Iraq and stressingthat the use of force must be the "last option."
