French Intelligence Sees 'No Organic Links' Between Saddam Hussein, al-Qaeda

"There is no organic links" between the Iraqi regime led by President Saddam Hussein and the terrorist group al-Qaeda director of France's anti-espionage agency DST Pierre Bousquet de Florian said Monday.
He made the remark when interviewed during the program of "100 minutes to understand" at French television France 2.
French experts specialized in anti-terrorist fight share the certainty that "there is no organic link between the regime of Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda," said de Florian.
However, he added that Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden mighthave common interests under certain circumstances.
The statement of the French intelligence head went in contrast with Washington's argument that the Iraqi regime has secret links with the terrorist group.
On Feb. 5, United States Secretary of State Colin Powell told the UN Security Council that Iraq not only possesses weapons of mass destruction, obstructs the UN inspections, but also has linkswith al-Qaeda.
