Seven coalminers were killed in a gas explosion in southwest China's
Sichuan
province, the Xinhua reports.
The blast happened Friday morning in a mine in the west of Panzhihua city in Sichuan, the report said.
The seven killed were the only ones working in the mine at the time of the accident.
Although it had all the required operating licenses, the coalpit had been closed down before the accident.
However, the contractor neglected the official order and resumed operations without permission.
The mine's manager has been arrested and police are searching for man who contracted out the mine from the local government for use. He has escaped and is still at large.
The cause for the explosion is still under investigation.
