Three Gorges Dam to Start Generating Power in August
The Three Gorges Dam project will start generating power in August this year. The electricity generators will be gradually put into operation to generate 5.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. A provisional electricity distribution plan has been decided.

The Number One generating units will generate 2.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to China's eastern area, distributing 40 percent to Shanghai, 28 percent to Jiangsu, 23 percent to Zhejiang and 9 percent to Anhui.
An additional 2.8 billion kilowatt-hours will be distributed to three provinces in central China, delivering 40 percent to Hubei, 20 percent to Hunan and the remaining 40 percent to Henan.
The Number One generating units have a 700,000 kilowatt capacity each. Another three units will also start production this year.
