Exchanges between east China's Fujian Province and Taiwan witnessed significant progress in 2002,according to a senior official with the provincial Taiwan Affairs Office.

The province organized 150 exchange projects, in which 263 groups of 2,552 Fujian people visited Taiwan and 432,800 Taiwanese visited Fujian, said the official last week.

Groups of religious followers, in groups of 300 to 400, from central or southern parts of Taiwan, visited Fujian for religious worship via direct sea routes in May and July.

Colleges, schools and civil organizations also arranged student-oriented activities across the straits to enhance mutual understanding and emotional links, he said.

Local products and media were also promoted in the two provinces, said the official.
