Iraq VP Accuses US of Pushing World Towards 'Big Catastrophe'
Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan said on Wednesday the United States was pushing the world towards a "big catastrophe" by plotting a war against Iraq, the official Iraqi News Agency reported.
Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan said on Wednesday the United States was pushing the world towards a "big catastrophe" by plotting a war against Iraq, the official Iraqi News Agency reported.
"The United States is working on pushing the world towards a bigcatastrophe through its insistence on carrying out an unjust aggression on Iraq," Ramadan told visiting Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, a special envoy of Pope John Paul II.
"The United States knows well that Iraq is devoid of weapons of mass destruction, but it is trying by all means to create the pretexts to launch an unjust aggression to impose its hegemony and occupation over Iraq's oil wealth," Ramadan said.
He termed the US move as "part of a larger US plot to shake world peace and security."
The United States accuses Iraq of secretly developing weapons ofmass destruction and is pouring tens of thousands of troops into the Gulf region to back up its threats to disarm Baghdad by force.
