IOC to Inspect Pyeongchang's 2010 Winter Games Bid

A team from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will undertake an inspection February 14-17 to examine the bid by South Korean city of Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

A team from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will undertake an inspection February 14-17 to examine the bid by South Korean city of Pyeongchang, GangwonProvince, for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Organizers of the bid said on that the 18-member IOC team led by Gerhard Heiberg of Norway will arrive in Yongpyeong on Thursdayand then visit Pyeongchang, Gangneung and Wonju for the facilities there.

The inspection is the only one to be conducted on Pyeongchang'sbid before the IOC Assembly in Prague votes to decide the host city for the 2010 Winter Games.

Pyeongchang's Winter Olympic Games committee said it will concentrate its efforts on voicing the city's merits compared to the rival cities in the bid -- Salzburg, Austria and Vancouver, Canada.

It was also announced that the IOC team will hold a news conference on February 17 at the Seoul Lotte Hotel, after the inspection.
