In view of a looming US-led war against neighboring Iraq, Turkey is intensifying preparations to deal with any eventualities, the Turkish daily Hurriyet (Freedom) reported on Saturday.
The Turkish military keeps dispatching personnel and equipment to the Turkish-Iraqi border region.
Many soldiers and vehicles are being transferred by train from Thrace in northwestern Turkey to the southeastern frontier region.
The National Defense Ministry's Department of Mobilization on Friday issued an "Order of Mission" to commandeer civilian jeeps.
The license plates and addresses of the owners of jeeps have been noted down. Owners of those vehicles have started to be notified about this order.
In case of a war mobilization, these vehicles have to be handed over to the concerned departments within six hours.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has recommended that Turkish citizens limit their visits to regional countries considering developments in the region.
"It will be beneficial for Turkish citizens who still are in regional countries to follow developments in the region, and they should contact Turkish embassies in the countries where they are staying due to their safety," said the Foreign Ministry statement.
