Chris Patten, commissioner for external relations of the European Union, on Friday said the international community should give time to the UN inspectors in Iraq to fulfill their work.
Chris Patten, commissioner for external relations of the European Union, on Friday said the international community should give time to the UN inspectors in Iraq to fulfill their work.
Following his meeting with Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, Patten told reporters that their talks focused on the regional development, especially the Iraq crisis, the Oriental radio reported.
Patten said if the international community wants the UN Resolution 1441 to be implemented thoroughly, it should let UN inspectors fulfill their work in Iraq.
He also stressed that the Iraq crisis should be solved within UNframework.
Meanwhile, the EU official asked Arab states to exert pressure on Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to abide by relevant international resolutions.
Patten and President Lahoud also discussed the EU-Mediterranean economic partnership agreement, which Lebanon signed with the EU last year.
Patten arrived in Beirut Thursday night from Turkey for a two-day visit to the country.
