The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) opposes the move to submit the issue of the current nuclear crisis to the UN Security Council, the DPRK embassy to Russia said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for its plan to submit the issue to the Security Council on Feb. 12.

The IAEA has no right to do so, as the DPRK was neither a member state of the organization nor a signing country of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, said the statement.

The statement accused the United States of violating the 1994 framework agreement and a joint statement between the two countries, thus posing threat to the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula. The international community should first recognize such a fact, it added.

The embassy also said that the DPRK's nuclear programs were devoted to peaceful purposes and electricity supply.

If the UN Security Council failed to dismiss Washington's biased policy toward Pyongyang, the DPRK would not recognize its decisions, it warned.
