Shandong's GDP Exceeds one Trillion Yuan
The coastal province of Shandong has become the third biggest provincial economy on the Chinese mainland after Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces, according to official figures.

The province's gross domestic product (GDP) for the past year totaled 1.05 trillion yuan (128 billion US dollars) in 2002, topping 1 trillion yuan for the first time, said Zhang Debao, an official with the Shandong provincial Statistics Bureau.
The figure was an increase of 11.5 percent year-on-year, the fastest in seven years. It also makes Shandong the third provincesin China with GDP exceeding the one-trillion-yuan mark.
The figure represented a per capita GDP of 1,400 US dollars for2002, up 11 percent year on year, according to the official.
The primary industry sector in Shandong generated 139 billion yuan (16.9 billion US dollars) in added value, an increase of 2.5 percent, while the manufacturing sector reported a 14.8 percent increase to 530.9 billion yuan (64.7 billion US dollars ).
The tertiary industry recorded a 10.6 percent increase in addedvalue to 385.1 billion yuan (46.9 billion US dollars).
