Jiangsu Province in east China had the second biggest economy in China in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2002, official figures have shown.
Tang Yilun, director of the Statistics Bureau of Jiangsu provincial government, said Jiangsu recorded 1.0636 trillion yuan in GDP last year, becoming the second province on the Chinese mainland after south China's Guangdong province with its GDP exceeding the one-trillion-yuan mark.
The figure represents 11.6 percent growth over the previous year.
The growth rate is also 3.6 percentage points higher than the national average.
With a population of 74 million, Jiangsu is famous for its booming manufacturing industry in areas adjacent to Shanghai, the country's major financial, shipping and industrial center.
