The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday reiterated its opposition to bring the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula to the United Nations and urged the Security Council to show impartiality in dealing with it.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday reiterated its opposition to bring the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula to the United Nations and urged the Security Council to show impartiality in dealing with it.
The UN Security Council is well advised to show impartiality onthis matter, otherwise the DPRK will not recognize it, a DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman said in an interview with the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The United States, as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is making great efforts to bring the issue to the United Nations and is increasing pressure on the DPRK, the spokesman said.
The IAEA is scheduled to hold a board meeting next week to discuss whether to refer the nuclear issue to the UN Security Council.
The DPRK does not care about whether the UN Security Council discusses the nuclear issue or not and urged the council to call into question the United States' responsibility for igniting the issue, the spokesman said, adding the IAEA has no right to interfere in the issue as the DPRK is no longer its member.
Pyongyang withdrew from the nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty onJan. 10 and declared revitalization of its nuclear program.
