Cambodia apologizes to Thailand for the embassy incident
Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong has made officially apology on the embassy incident to the Thai government, said Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Sinawatra on Tuesday.

Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong has made officially apology on the embassy incident to the Thai government, said Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Sinawatra on Tuesday.
"The Cambodian government expressed the sincerity to apologize on what happened," the Cambodian foreign minister told reporters after a meeting with Thaksin at the government office.
Hor Nam Hong, who arrived here on Tuesday, handed in an apology letter written to Thaksin by Cambodia's premier Hun Sen.
Thaksin said, the Cambodian government agreed to compensate theloss of Thai embassy, which was burned during an anti-Thai demonstration on Jan. 29.
As to the compensation of Thai interests in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian government will first establish an investigation committee to evluate the loss before it makes any decision, Nor Nam Hong told Thaksin.
According to Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai, the preliminary damage claims totaling 1.8 billion baht (about 42.9 million US dollars).
The Thai government is willing to pull back the bilateral relations to normal track, Thaksin said, but so far it depends onwhether the Cambodian government can meet the requirment of the Thai government.
After the incident, the Thai government declared close of the border to Cambodia and downgraded its embassy there to charge d' affairs.
"We are neighboring nations, will be together all the time, can't be separated no matter what happens," Thaksin said at the news briefing, calling the two governments to make efforts to resolve the incident.
Thailand has asked the Cambodian government to make formal apology for this incident, compensate the Thai government and citizen's loss caused by it and arrest those who incited and were responsible for the violence.
Hor Nam Hong then left for the resort city of Huahin, about 300kilometers south of Bangkok, where he is expected to hand in a letter from King Norodom Sihanou to the king of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej.
