Iraqi President Saddam Hussein denies having any connection with the Al-Qaeda terror group, the Qatar-based Al Jazeera satellite TV channel monitored here reported late Tuesday.

The report said Saddam will soon issue a statement to clear his regime of the alleged links with the group.

"We have no relationship with al-Qaeda," Saddam said in an interview, which will be screened at local time 09:00 p.m. (1900 GMT) by Britain's independent Channel 4.

Saddam also rejected that Iraq has developed weapons of mass destruction, saying the United States is keen about a war on Iraq just to control abundant oil resource in Iraq.

The United States has accused Iraq of secretly developing weapons of mass destruction and is pouring tens of thousands of troops into the Gulf region to back up its threats to disarm Baghdad by force.
