Chinese Scientist: Columbia Tragedy Cannot Thwart Space Exploration

When expressing his deep condolences over the US space shuttle Columbia tragedy on Saturday,Tu Shou'e, an astronautic scientist of China, said the tragedy cannot thwart the steps of mankind in space exploration, although the road is full of danger and difficulties.

Tu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said China will launch its first manned space shuttle this year, and Chinese astronautic experts and technicians should learn lessons from the tragedy and work hard to realize the nation's dream of reaching the space, the People's Daily reports Monday.

As for the cause of the tragedy, Tu was quoted as saying, it is unlikely that the shuttle was knocked by space debris, but investigation is needed to reach a conclusion.
