China's Wang Manli Leads Women's 500m in Speed Skating with Asian Record

Chinese speed skater Wang Manli is on the edge to win the women's 500m race when she led thepack with an Asian record at the 5th Asian Winter Games on Friday.

Chinese speed skater Wang Manli is on the edge to win the women's 500m race when she led thepack with an Asian record at the 5th Asian Winter Games on Friday.

In the first race of the distance, Wang, silver-medalist of theevent at the world short distance speed skating championships in Calgary last month, set a new Asian games record at 39.20 seconds in the Mizuno Crystal Oval.

The previous games record of 39.29 was set by China's Xue Ruihong in Chunchon, South Korea in 1999.

Japanese skaters Yukari Watanabe and Sayuri Osuga finished second and third at 39.23 and 39.67 respectively.

The gold medal of the event will be decided after second race on Monday.
