Israel held a ceremony at the Prime Minister's Office Sunday morning to grieve over the tragedy of the space shuttle Columbia.
The ceremony was held before the regular cabinet meeting, with Israeli and American flags flown at half-mast to mourn the deaths of the seven astronauts aboard the Columbia, which broke apart overTexas minutes before the scheduled landing on Saturday.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and US Ambassador to Israel Dan Kurtzer were present at the ceremony.
On Saturday night, Sharon called US President George W. Bush, who told Sharon that he knew there was on board a "courageous Israeli citizen," Col. Ilan Ramon, and conveyed his condolences to Ramon's family.
Sharon had sent condolences to the American people and the families of the Columbia crew members, saying "the hearts of Americans and Israelis beat as one. Let us pray together and support each other."
