Iraq's National Monitoring Directorate chief Hussam Amin said that Iraq will do its best to make UN chief inspectors' visit successful.
Iraq has not got a schedule of the incoming visit of UN arms inspector Hans Blix and chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohammed ElBaradei on Feb. 8, but Iraq will cooperate positively with UN inspectors to facilitate their tasks, Amin told a press conference.
Answering questions on whether any conclusion has been reached on such unresolved issues like U-2 spy plane's fly over Iraq andprivate interviews with Iraqi scientists, Amin said that these questions have not been discussed, and absolutely "we will do this in the next coming days."
On the question of what makes UN chief inspectors change their mind and come to Iraq, Amin said that actually they had not refused to visit Iraq, they just wanted more progress.
Blix, who heads the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC), and ElBaradei's visit to Baghdad is targeted at four goals, he said.
First, to support the transparency and cooperation in all fields to implement UNMOVIC and IAEA tasks; second, to follow up the implementation of the agreed announcement of Jan. 20; third, tofind out jointly any measures that could help verify the disarmament issues which have been addressed in the UNMOVIC reports to the Security Council; fourth, to improve cooperation and discussthe establishment of enhanced monitoring system in Iraq, he said.
Concerning the US evidence which is expected to present to the UN Security Council on Feb. 5, Amin said that the evidence perhaps would be planted photos, if Iraq is given opportunity to see the evidence, Iraq will be able to prove they are lies, he added.Amin also reiterated that Iraq is free of weapons of mass destruction and that has been verified through UN inspections.
