French Foreign Ministry on Saturday demanded its nationals to leave Cote d'Ivoire following week-long riots against a Paris-brokered peace deal.

French Foreign Ministry also strongly discouraged travelers from going to the country tortured by a four-month civil war.

A French community of some 16,000 people live in Cote d'Ivoire, mostly in the largest city and economic capital of Abidjan.

The power-sharing peace agreement reached here last weekend waschallenged by supporters of the government who accused the French of being unjust during the mediation.

On Friday morning, about 800 young protesters stormed the runway at the airport of Abidjan. A French peace-keeping soldier was seriously wounded when French and Ivorian troops jointly took actions to stop the mob.

Hundreds of French employees working for French enterprises in Cote have been evacuated on a charter flight since the riot started last weekend.
