Bush Assures Karzai of US Commitment to Afghanistan
US President George Bush on Tuesday evening made a phone call to Afghan Transitional President Hamid Karzai, assuring him of US commitment to security and reconstruction in Afghanistan, according to Karzai's spokesman.

During the conversation, Bush expressed his satisfaction over the achievements of the Afghan government in the country's reconstruction efforts, Fazil Akbar told Xinhua.
Bush also told his Afghan counterpart that Afghanistan will still be the top priority of America's foreign assistance program as before even if an Iraq war breaks out.
Bush added that his country would provide assistance through different projects in different fields to help Afghanistan with the reconstruction process.
The US president also invited Karzai to visit Washington at an appropriate time, the spokesman said.
The Afghan government has been worry about a possible US war against Iraq, fearing that such a war will diverse the United States' attention to anti-terrorism activities and the reconstruction process in Afghanistan.
