Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, has urged senior Party officials to study and analyze world economy so as to know better the rules of economic development in the country's opening-up campaign.

"We must get to know favorable and unfavorable factors brought about by changes in the development of the world economy, and make good use of the favorable and shun the unfavorable, in order to promote sustained, speedy and healthy development of our country's economy," Hu said.

He made the remarks Tuesday while presiding over the second lecture for the members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Yu Yongding and Jiang Xiaojuan, researchers with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, lectured on the issue.

During the discussion, Hu said China must make better use of the first 20 years of this century which is an important strategic period full of opportunities.

He urged Party members to pay full attention to the development of the national economy as well as the world economy in the next 20 years, as the country strives to build an overall well-off society outlined by the 16th CPC National Congress in November last year.

Along with the reform and opening-up drive and the socialist market economy, China's economic links with the world are growing closer, while the world economy is having an increasingly bigger impact on the country's economy, he noted.

He went on to say that the development of globalization has brought about important opportunities as well as serious challenges to China.

He called for greater efforts to increase exports, introduce advanced technology, funds, personnel and managerial expertise from abroad, explore international markets and utilize the international resources.

"Facing difficulties and risks, we must be clear-minded, be good at coping with them, take effective measures, and try hard to overcome difficulties and prevent risks, so as to minimize negative impacts and ensure the stable development and safety of our country's economy," he said.

Hu pledged to maintain China's basic state policy of opening upto the outside world and promoting the common prosperity of all countries. "China's development relies on the world, while the world's development also needs China," he stressed.
