In China's southern Guangdong province, a teacher has been arrested after he went on a rampage at Yang Gan Middle School in Suixi county, slashing four students to death with a vegetable knife and wounding three others, including a teacher.

It's not immediately clear what triggered the attacks but local police say the teacher, Chen Peiquan has a history of mental illness

Yangcheng Evening News says Chen Peixin and all the victims lived in the teacher's dormitory. Sunday afternoon, he began knocking on doors and cut whoever answered with the knife.

Chen fled to the roof when police arrived and was taken into custody after a struggle.

The 35-year-old has lived in hospitals for months on end since his mental illness began six years ago. The school did not pay for the stays and Chen Peiquan could no longer afford medical care and medication.
